Edinburgh's best child friendly pubs

4 Mins

Children and pubs; some may say that never the twain shall meet, especially in a city like Edinburgh where even the use of a loo in a public house with a child in tow may be off limits.

While we’re not suggesting that children should routinely head to your local for an after work Friday drinking session, once in a while a catch up with friends over a pint of draught ale or a large glass of your favourite red is a pleasure to behold. Here’s a run down of some family friendly pubs citywide that get the i-on seal of approval...

The Espy

The one on Porty beach, it’s all about the family at The Espy. Licensed until 10pm for children, the vibe is chilled back and relaxed, the booze offerings are spot one and they do a seriously good line in burgers. Just bring a balaclava and the little ones’ trikes for a post pint walk in the sea air.
62-64 Bath St, Edinburgh, EH15 1HF, Tel: 0131 669 0082, www.facebook.com/The-Espy

Salisbury Arms

The Salisbury Arms (pictured above) welcomes children until 10pm - great news for parents who enjoy quality food and drink. There’s a stash of colouring in pens and crayons to keep the little ones occupied and at 1pm on Wednesdays, Mrs Mash drops by for story time to tell the wee ones about healthy eating in a fun and entertaining way.
58 Dalkeith Rd, Edinburgh, EH16 5AD, Tel: 0131 667 4518,

The Caley Sample Room

Standing proud in Shandon, this one’s popular with local young families and offers a kids’ menu with mighty sized portions. Good spot for Sunday lunch. Licensed until 8pm.
58 Angle Park Terr, Edinburgh, EH11 2JR, Tel: 0131 337 7204,

Hamilton’s

For a child friendly bar in Stockbridge, Hamilton’s do it well. A great place for cocktails and dining in its own right, this gastro pub welcomes kids until 8pm. There’s a kids’ menu adapted from the main menu, room for pushchairs and baby changing facilities too.
16-18 Hamilton Pl, Edinburgh, EH3 5AU, Tel: 0131 226 4199,

Roseleaf

A cute as a button pub with a big, bold reputation. Roseleaf also caters well for kids and welcomes them in the main bar until 5pm. When things get busy the back room holds a children’s license until 10pm. Also great for private tea parties.
23/24 Sandport Pl, Edinburgh, EH6 6EW, Tel: 0131 476 5268, www.roseleaf.co.uk.

Joseph Pearce

A stalwart on the pub scene, the play area at the back of Joseph Pearce is great for the little ones. Kids’ menu and utensils provided, and a microwave for heating food for your baby… all until 5pm. It’s a great spot for adult lunch too.
23 Elm Row, Edinburgh, EH7 4AA, Tel: 0131 556 4140,
