Three of the best smart cameras
Streaming unexpected activity live onto your smart phone, smart cameras can take home security to a whole new level. We put three market leaders to the test…
Best for child monitoring: Netgear Arlo Q, £139.99
One of the biggest benefits of the Arlo Q is two way audio, meaning that as well as home security, it’s useful as a child or pet monitor. It offers a similar 1080p wide angle night vision HD camera which can be configured in the app to monitor specific zones so as to get more accurate results.
Best for cloud features: Y-Cam Evo, £129.99
While the other options don’t charge any subscription fees, they do offer extended options for an extra charge, Y-cam’s big plus is offering these extras, such as downloading clips and seven days of storage for free. The Y-cam (pictured above) was the quickest of the three to set up, requiring very little input. Stand out features include the ability to manually record; great for capturing family moments.
Best overall: Canary, £159.99
Sporting a 1080p HD wide angle camera with excellent night vision; the Canary is easily controlled from the slick interface and at the time of going to press, the only of the three to work with Apple’s native HomeKit. Another unique feature of the three is the home health monitoring which can transmit live info and alerts about temperature, humidity and air quality.
