Fiona Fowley’s Edinburgh

As director and founder of Zen Lifestyle, the multi award-winning beauty salons in Edinburgh, Fiona Fowley knows all too well about the benefits of looking and feeling good. Born and bred in the capital, she spends her days balancing family and work life, going between the three salons - the original salon in Bruntsfield, Teviot Place or their flagship salon on Hanover Street. Here she talks beauty tips and recommends favourite haunts in the city.

Best part of owning your own business?
The fact that you are the decision maker and can influence directly how successful it is as you have the complete control to do so.

Best thing about the beauty industry?
It changes at an astonishing pace so as a business it’s vital Zen Lifestyle evolves too in order to ensure we’re always ahead of industry trends and clients always have access to the most up to date and effective treatments.

Beauty mistakes to avoid?
Wearing too much make-up, less is more.

Your top beauty tip?
Sleep and keeping hydrated is the best tip for your skin. Closely followed by great eyebrows. They can change your whole face – I highly recommend HD Brows.

Best places for…

A quick escape?
I like running in the Hermitage and by Water of Leith, it really helps me clear my head and relax.

Pampering?
Zen Lifestyle. Try the Omnilux LED light therapy at Zen Lifestyle. It’s a totally natural method of light-only skin rejuvenation and a very powerful but underrated skin treatment.

Favourite restaurant?
We’re spoilt for choice in the city but I love trying new places. I recently visited the new Rollo on Broughton Street which was great and Dine is next on my list.

Favourite bar?
Tigerlily, it’s like my second home.
