Five of our favourite sunscreens you should be wearing on your face daily
With fears over skin cancer getting more airtime, protecting yourself from the sun’s rays is a must. But there's also growing concerns over a serious lack of Vitamin D in Scots due to limited sunshine and too much time spent indoors.
So what can we do to combat the problem? Foods like fatty fish, cheese and egg yolks all contain Vitamin D and can boost levels, but that won’t be enough to turn around a deficiency and, as such, we should all be taking a Vitamin D supplement daily. And, of course, we need to be getting ourselves and our children outdoors, whatever the weather. Just be mindful of wearing sunscreen.
“There is no scientific evidence that wearing sunscreen prevents the absorption of Vitamin D,” says Edinburgh-based cosmetic doctor, Dr Nestor who treats clients for sun damage every day. “What it does do is protect the skin from harmful UVB rays on a sunny day, and the daily damage of UVA rays which occur no matter what the weather. I would always recommend daily use of at least factor 30 to protect the skin.”
So, there it is, pale people of Scotland – get some sun, but always wear protection. Here's five of our favourite brands and where to snap them up.
