The game changing beauty salon set to shake up Scotland

3 Mins

Is the face of the beauty salon about to change forever?

If Roz Colthart’s latest venture is anything to go by then the answer is yes. She’s already been nominated as a finalist in the 2019 Scottish Women’s Awards Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year and that’s because her idea is a really good one. Roz has brought a taste of the USA to Scotland with the opening of her first Salon Studios salon in Corstorphine and plans to open several more across the country in 2020.

Succinctly, consider Salon Studios as a shopping centre for beauty, wellness and hair professionals. Instead of retail outlets, inside you’ll find a community of top-of-their-game hair and beauty experts all doing their own thing in designated salons spaces. They’ve all taken up residence for the price they would pay to rent a chair in someone else’s salon but here, it’s their own business name and vision that hangs above the door.

Salon Studios

“What I saw in the American version were happy salon owners able to focus on what they loved without getting caught up in day-to-day management issues like staffing, paying bills or worrying about cash flow,” Roz explains. The first (and presently only) company in the UK to do this, Salon Studios is turning the traditional idea of salon ownership on its head. It offers six, individual mini-salons under one roof, each a stylishly furnished, blank canvas where professionals can make their own mark, choose their own products, work their own hours and make their own rules. It’s the perfect stepping-stone for people who are desperate to start their own business but can’t afford the outlay, both upfront and ongoing.

“Salon Studios is a mix of all the best bits I saw in the States,” Roz continues. “Our salon owners don’t have to worry about paying utility bills, rates, legal fees, wi-fi, waste collection and more. With one weekly flat fee they know the amount they need to pay and have the space and creativity to focus on their own business…If they’re happy, we’re happy too.”
