Start 2019 in style at Musselburgh Racecourse
Whether it is a fun-filled night that carries on into the early hours or a quiet night in with family and friends, January 1 used to feel like the party was well and truly over. But here at i-on we know the festivities no longer end after Hogmanay as there’s a host of events to enjoy. And top of our list is the Betway New Year’s Day Raceday at Musselburgh Racecourse where we’ll be toasting 2019 in style.
A day at the races is always a stylish affair. If you top their new winter fashion competition you could win a made-to-measure his or hers tweed jacket by Gordon Nicholson Kiltmakers. All you need to do is don your finest winter ensembles as the fashion scouts will be out looking for the ‘Best Winter Outfit 2019’.
And so, to give you a head start on what to wear to start 2019 in style at Musselburgh Racecourse we've put together our top tips.
For the Gents
It will be January so a warm coat is essential. Opt for a modern slim-fit in classic tweed, stylish checks or herringbone for a dapper look that will see you through spring. This investment works as well with jeans as it does in a three piece suit. Or, opt for a tweed jacket with a wool overcoat for extra warmth.
But your outfit doesn't stop at your outerwear. Layer up with a roll neck jumper, ideally cashmere or merino wool for the extra warm factor. It will add depth to your look without adding bulk and keep the overall look streamlined (keep the cheesy Christmas jumpers away though please). An outsized scarf will effortlessly accessorise – and don’t forget those gloves.
Where to shop: For stylish knits try The White Company, Marks and Spencer, Pure Collection, Jigsaw, H&M and Florence & Fred. For investment coats Slaters Menswear, Harvey Nichols, Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers, Walker Slater and Cruise have something for everyone.
For the Ladies
AW/18/19 welcomed a surge of bold textures and prints created with the cosiest of fabrics into our wardrobes. Think stylish layers ladies as dresses are not needed for this raceday.
With your classic coat most likely already bagged, bright colours will make you stand out amongst the crowd but mix those in with an unexpected pattern for an eye-catching look.
And don't forget your accessories. We tend to think less about practicalities when it comes to fashion (guilty) but you can easily find stylish winter warmers if you do your research. This season it's all about the beret.
Where to shop: Whistles, Hush, Mint Velvet, Accessorize, Dorothy Perkins and Marks and Spencer.
