The Everyday Man, John Robertson

2 Mins

In our quest to get to know the names behind Scotland’s top blogs, we talk with John Robertson, editor and creator of The Everyday Man, the style blog that became his full-time job in 2014.

What’s the blog about?
The Everyday Man is more of an online men’s magazine covering a broad range of lifestyle topics like fashion, fitness and travel. Ultimately enjoy sharing the things I like to eat, wear and watch.

How many times a week do you post?
Ideally daily, but at least three or four times a week. I travel around quite a bit so keeping on top of the writing can be a bit of a challenge.

Do you do your own photography?
I take most of the product shots myself but for fashion or lifestyle images I work with a really good Glasgow photographer called Jonathan Sword. I found him on Instagram and really liked his style so we now regularly work together on projects.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?
I find managing my time the hardest part. Like anyone who works alone or for themselves, you have to become a bit of a Jack of all trades and be prepared to put in a serious amount of hours. The rewards are good though, so it’s important to keep that in mind.

Are ‘numbers’ important to you?
Stats are important as that’s what advertisers look at when deciding if you’re a ‘good fit’ but I’m more interested in producing strong content. I think if I get that right, the numbers will follow.

Which blogs do you read?
I used to read a lot more than I do now as I had more time on my hands. My current favourites are probably bucketandspadesblog.com, lucieloves.co.uk and fashionbeans; it was the first blog I started following
