10 magical facts about Walt Disney
This year marks 50 years since the passing of Walt Disney, the visionary behind the Disney World in Florida. By way of celebration, Kenwood Travel, has compiled some interesting facts you probably didn’t know about the park.
1. Never noticed Disney employees wandering around? That’s because there are underground tunnels to allow staff to move from A to B.
2. Walt preferred to be called by his first name, which is why employees have badges with just their first name.
3. The delicious smelling streets are down to the vents which pump out scents like vanilla, at Christmas they change it to peppermint.
4. Kodak and Disney worked out that coloured concrete would reflect light in a way which would create vivid and attractive photographs.
5. Disney World is 30,500 acres in size, making it about the same size as San Francisco.
6. Toy Story characters used to drop to the ground when guest yelled, "Andy's coming!" but the practice has been discontinued for safety reasons.
7. If you head to Tom Sawyers Island, watch out for a paintbrush hidden on the ground. It’ll get you free fast track passes for a ride.
8. The Cinderella Castle has a hotel room which is reserved for contest winners - you can’t pay to sleep there.
9. Don’t ask Cinderella what she thinks of Snow White. In Disney World, anything out of the character’s story doesn’t exist so characters don’t know each other.
10. Visit the Beauty and the Beast inspired restaurant, Be Our Guest, and ask for “the grey stuff” to get a secret dish.
