3 must-see films at the Glasgow Film Festival
The Glasgow Film Festival returns from 26 February to 08 March with a whole host of incredible movies. Festival Manager Debbie Aitken makes her top three picks from the programme…
Our Ladies
Michael Caton-Jones’ adaption of Alan Warner’s novel, The Sopranos, is just the ticket for a girl’s night out. The girls of Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour school are headed to Edinburgh for a choir competition, but what they’re really after is adventure, shopping and a good time. With a cast of up-and coming young Scottish actresses, this is Scotland’s Derry Girls.
Glasgow Film Theatre, 28 and 29 February
Screaming Masterpiece
Part of our Country Focus on Iceland, Screaming Masterpiece is a tour-de-force portrait of contemporary music in Iceland. With performances from Bjork, Sigur Rós, Múm, Johann Johannson & Amina (with Damon Albarn & Foo Fighters also appearing) this documentary is a cinematic ode to Icelandic pop music.
CCA Cinema, 05 and 06 March.
Saint Maud
Part of FrightFest, this one’s for the horror fans. Recently Born-again Maud (a star-making performance from Morfydd Clark) is a young Scarborough nurse striving for religious salvation from the demons plaguing her. If she can rescue the soul of hedonistic dancer Amanda, now in the late stages of terminal illness, can Maud save herself? This blistering debut from Rose Glass has touches of Breaking the Waves and The Exorcist. Glasgow Film Theatre, 07 March.
