The Dunhill Cup
It’s October and that means the Dunhill Cup is back in town. If you love your golf, the attractions are obvious - you can buy tickets only on the final day at the entrance gate of the Old Course, for £20 and concessionary at £15, while under 16s and students enter for free. But it’s also a celeb-spotter’s dream. The great thing about St Andrews is that it’s small enough to increase your odds of sitting down for supper next to a movie star at one of the many fine restaurants. Our top tip is Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant the Balaka. Every year, owner, Michael Rouf, welcomes guests including, over the years, Sir Sean Connery, Hugh Grant and Samuel L Jackson.
And when we say you can only buy tickets for the final day, that’s not entirely true. The Alfred Dunhill Experience at the Old Course Hotel (06 to 09 October) is your ‘in’. If you fancy pushing the boat out for the Dunhill experience - where 168 golfing pros are paired with 168 amateurs from the worlds of sport, business and entertainment - the hotel is offering two experiences. For £95 (£125 on the Sunday) you get bubbles, brunch, afternoon tea, links times, draw sheet, entry badge and preferred parking. Or for £35 (£50 on the Sunday), a glass of bubbles, afternoon tea, entry badge and preferred parking. You’re welcome.
Pre-booking is essential. For more information visit www.oldcoursehotel. co.uk, Tel: 01334 474371.
