Sharing the love: White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar
Why White Horse Oyster and Seafood Bar is daring to be different
White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar, on the site of the oldest inn on the Royal Mile, has been making noise on the restaurant scene since it opened its doors nearly two years ago. It’s dared to be a little bit different from other seafood restaurants by offering a variety of small plates which are made for sharing. And it’s paying off nicely. This serious contender for ‘best seafood restaurant in Edinburgh’ has just introduced new dishes that we’re literally chomping at the bit to try...
Here’s why.
HAPPY DAYS | £1 OYSTERS
If you’re a fan of oysters then you’ll love the Buck A Shuck happy hour every Monday to Thursday (4-6pm). You can eat your way around the UK with oysters from Lindisfarne, Carlingford, Loch Fyne and Caledonian, all for £1 each. Or, if you prefer, there are some deliciously dressed oysters on the menu including grilled oyster with nduja and pickled fennel, or oyster tempura with baby gem, wasabi mayo, ponzo, and pickled ginger.
A THING OF BEAUTY | CHARRED OCTOPUS
We love braised octopus and the slower it’s cooked, the more tender it becomes. Perhaps the most underrated seafood around, it’s full of flavour and tastes great served simply with smoked mayo and sea herbs. 100% insta-friendly too. If you haven’t tried it yet, make sure you do – at least once.
FRESH AND LOCAL | THE VERY BEST SEAFOOD
Razor clams, lobster, hand-dived scallops.... And they’re just for starters. Or how about some sea trout? Delicately cured, it’s a unique dish with a kick of spice brought by the charred corn and jalapeno salsa.
NOT AS YOU KNOW IT | TEQUILA
The drinks menu is serious business at White Horse and in keeping with the seafood theme, you’ve got to try their take on a margarita, the Seaweed Tommy’s; a moreish mix of Ocho Blanco tequila, lime juice, agave syrup and smoked seaweed salt, served with a large, branded ice cube.
