Where i-on's been eating this month: Bodega TollX
Nicky Howden gets her taco on at Bodega TollX...
I’d love to say this place is a hidden gem nestled in Tollcross but, given that tables are like gold dust come weekends, I’d say the secret is out. Some may argue that Bodega is always bustling because of its diminutive size but whilst it is small, it’s the food (and those margaritas) that draw the crowds.
The menu is short and simple with some great sharing starters like the house guacamole and tortilla chips, £5.50, and Korean fried chicken wings with sesame and lime, £6. But it’s the tacos that are the main event; from Baja cod bites with a smoky tomato sauce, £7, to tempura tiger prawn with chilli soy and garlic sauce, £7.50, and slow cooked pork shoulder, £7.50, the street style tacos come as pairs and are utterly delicious, especially with the homemade chilli salsa.
As the baby sister restaurant to the acclaimed Bodega Tacqueria in Leith, which opens its new bigger premises in the former Tailend fish restaurant on Leith Walk this month, Bodega Toll X has a lot to live up to. It effortlessly delivers with its relaxed, chilled vibe and tasty food. If you need a good excuse to go check it out, they’ve also just introduced Bring Your Own Wine. Just make sure you beat the crowds and book in advance.
