Amanda Southey checks out The Club Room at The Dome
An institution in Edinburgh, The Dome has been serving its culinary delights for years and its latest offering - The Club Room - is a fabulous addition to their repertoire.
The Club Room’s newly launched small plates menu has been designed in the style of tapas with each dish to be shared or enjoyed on their own (that's if you are like me and don’t share). Perfect for a quick lunch, pre-theatre or, even better, over the course of an evening and preferably accompanied by some amazing cocktails. My Lampone Frizzante, £8, did not disappoint I'm already thinking about the Melon Cosmo for the next time.
The small plates use local Scottish Ingredients from all over the country that not only taste great but look beautiful as well. Split over four sections; Land, Sea, Nibbles and Something Sweet, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Six to eight dishes between two would be recommended so we start with the Bread and spreads, £3, and Haggis Bon-bons, £5, giving us time to mull over the rest of the menu (we wanted it all).
After much deliberation we settled for Seared Hand- dived Scallops, £14, and the Smoked Salmon and Hake Fishcake, £6, accompanied with the Garlic & Wild Herb Gnocchi, £7, and Club Potatoes with chippy sauce, £5, (trust me, you have to try these).
Turns out, we chose well. Rich, fresh flavours but not too heavy, and leaving just enough room for dessert - a giant profiterole with vanilla cream and chocolate sauce £6.50. The final verdict? We were so impressed that we've already booked to go back - this time for my hubby's birthday at the end of the month. And I'll be sure to get that Melon Cosmo.
