Design: Sara Hyslop
Sara Hyslop is a woman who can’t resist taking her work home with her but one look at Sterling Furniture’s London Road showroom, where Sara is in-store interior designer, you can understand why.
What’s your favourite room in your home?
My bedroom. ‘30s style Ralph Lauren brass reading lamps, vintage buttoned eiderdown, Agent Provocateur silk bedding and Zoffany Lotus Flower curtains. It’s restful, refined and just a little bit naughty.
What makes a house a home?
Your loved ones.
The interior I’ve been most impressed with is…
Princess Margaret’s suite at Colin Tennant’s Baronial home in the Scottish Borders. It had been decorated for her in the early ‘50s with a rare William Morris print of small orange trees on a cobalt background. The whole room was covered in it. Every inch. Not a lesson in restraint but fabulous.
Biggest design faux pas people make?
Not being true to themselves. It’s your home.
For a good housewarming present I’d buy…
Tom Dixon’s copper cafetiere and my favourite Dominican coffee.
