Colin Wong Scales Ben Nevis for Mental Health

2 Mins

"Mental health issues facing men can range from stress and anxiety triggered by the mundanity of modern life... to difficulties expressing emotion, or issues around drink and drugs; to complex behaviours formed in childhood, and hardwired chemical imbalances. Women are generally taught as girls to share their feelings, while little boys are told that big boys don’t cry, and real men man up."

Colin Wong, founder of the Development Direct group, was proud to announce his involvement in climbing Ben Nevis with boxing legend and Mental Health ambassador, Frank Bruno; in aid of The Frank Bruno Foundation and to raise awareness for mental health last month.

Having faced challenges both in and out of the ring, Frank Bruno set up the foundation in 2018 wanting to give something back to the community. His aim is to bring healthy-body and healthy-mind approaches to provide a holistic and enjoyable approach to supporting sufferers of mental health, whilst encouraging social inclusion and fighting stigma.

The gruelling challenge saw them ascend the UK’s highest mountain, often in perilous weather conditions, to reach the summit, culminating in Colin’s head being shaved by Frank.
